34 imagesDungeness, Kent. A strange place, acres and acres of shingle, small hut-like homes often painted matte black, and where owning a battered vintage caravan appears to be compulsory. Boats line the shore, some look sea-worthy, others look ready to rot and crumble into the pebble beach. Piles of fishing net, oil drums, rusty machinery, sea containers, ancient tools and other marine paraphenalia are plentiful, as are shells and broken crab limbs. There are two lighthouses, one old and out of commission but one can climb up it for an excellent view of the adjacent nuclear power station, the other black and white stripes and in full working order, warning passing ships of the ever shifting shingle coastline.
